ALCO RS36 NW (High hood)

These are N scale 3D printable files for the ALCo RS36 in Norfolk & Western Railway markings — the high hood, non-dynamic brake configuration, representing the N&W's original order of 6 units numbered 407–412. Designed to fit on an Atlas RS11 frame.

The ALCo RS36 was a 1,800 horsepower road switcher produced by the American Locomotive Company between 1962 and 1963, powered by ALCo's 251 series prime mover. Only 40 RS36s were ever built across all owners, making it one of the rarer ALCo road switcher types and a prized subject for ALCo and N&W enthusiasts alike.

The Norfolk & Western Railway was one of America's great coal-hauling railroads, operating an extensive network across Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, and beyond. The N&W ordered 6 RS36s numbered 407–412 as part of its diesel fleet, representing the railroad's own direct acquisition of the type. The N&W's RS36 roster grew significantly in 1964 when the railroad merged with the Nickel Plate Road, inheriting the NKP's entire fleet of 11 RS36s — renumbered as 2865–2875 — making the N&W one of the largest RS36 operators in the country with a combined fleet drawn from both its own order and the former NKP units.

This model represents the N&W's original 407–412 series in the railroad's own markings — distinct from the ex-NKP units that arrived with the merger.
