These are N scale 3D printable files for the ALCo RS36 in Nickel Plate Road markings — the low nose, non-dynamic brake configuration, representing units 865–873. Designed to fit on an Atlas RS11 frame.

The ALCo RS36 was a 1,800 horsepower road switcher produced by the American Locomotive Company between 1962 and 1963, one of ALCo's later diesel offerings as the builder fought to maintain its market share against the dominant EMD and GE product lines. The RS36 was built on ALCo's proven road switcher platform, powered by the 251 series prime mover, and offered railroads a capable and versatile locomotive suited to both road freight and branch line service. Only 40 RS36s were ever built across all owners, making it one of the rarer ALCo road switcher types and a prized subject for ALCo enthusiasts.

The Nickel Plate Road was one of the RS36's most significant customers, taking delivery of 11 units numbered 865–875. This model represents the low nose, non-dynamic brake variant — units 865–873 — the standard configuration of the NKP's RS36 fleet. The remaining two units, 874 and 875, were built to a different specification with a high short hood and equipped with steam generators for passenger train heating service. When the Nickel Plate Road was merged into the Norfolk & Western Railway in 1964, all 11 RS36s were renumbered into the N&W roster as 2865–2875, where they continued in service under their new owner.

The NKP's RS36s were among the last new locomotives delivered to the railroad before the N&W merger, and they represent the final chapter of the Nickel Plate Road's independent locomotive acquisition history — a fitting subject for modelers of either the NKP in its final years or the early Norfolk & Western.
