These are N scale 3D printable files for the ALCo RS36 with Dynamic Brakes, with decals for the Apache Railway — representing units 700, 800, and 900, the complete three-unit RS36 fleet of this Arizona short line. Designed to fit on an Atlas RS11 frame.
The ALCo RS36 was a 1,800 horsepower road switcher produced by the American Locomotive Company between 1962 and 1963, powered by ALCo's 251 series prime mover. Only 40 RS36s were ever built across all owners, and this dynamic brake equipped variant represents a visually and mechanically distinct configuration from the non-dynamic brake versions — the dynamic brake grids adding a characteristic rooftop blister that immediately distinguishes these units from their non-DB sisters.
The Apache Railway was a short line railroad operating in northeastern Arizona, serving the timber and industrial traffic of the White Mountains region around Holbrook and McNary. The Apache's three RS36s — numbered 700, 800, and 900 — represented the railroad's entire mainline diesel fleet, making the RS36 the definitive Apache Railway locomotive. Unit 800 is preserved and on display in Holbrook, Arizona, ensuring that at least one of these distinctive short line locomotives survives for future generations. With only three units, this model allows you to model the complete and total Apache Railway RS36 fleet — every dynamic brake RS36 the railroad ever owned.
The dynamic brake RS36 is also the appropriate model for other RS36 owners who specified dynamic brakes, making this a versatile subject beyond the Apache Railway markings.
A perfect companion to the ALCo RS36 NKP (Low Nose Non-Dynamic) and ALCo RS36 NKP (High Hood) also available from Out of the Box Models, completing the RS36 family across its major configuration variants.
