These are 1/72 scale decals for the Bell YH-40, the pre-production service test variant of the helicopter that would become the legendary UH-1 Iroquois — in olive drab.
While the earliest YH-40s wore natural metal finishes, later service test airframes transitioned to the olive drab scheme that would become standard across the Army's Iroquois fleet. This finish represents the YH-40 in a more operationally representative configuration, as the Army refined its requirements and moved the design closer to the production HU-1A standard. The olive drab YH-40 offers a fascinating contrast to its natural metal siblings — the same airframe, the same pivotal moment in Army aviation history, but wearing the colors of the combat helicopter it was about to become.
A great companion to the natural metal YH-40 listing, and an essential piece for collectors building out the full Iroquois prototype and pre-production story. Please allow some time for decal printing and shipping.
