These are 1/72 scale decals for Martin-built B-29 44-27300 "Strange Cargo", assigned to the 393rd Bombardment Squadron, United States Army Air Forces, under Project Silverplate.
Project Silverplate was the highly classified program to modify B-29s for the delivery of atomic weapons. The 393rd Bomb Squadron was the only combat squadron of the 509th Composite Group — the elite unit formed specifically to carry out atomic bombing missions. Strange Cargo was one of the specially modified Silverplate aircraft that trained alongside Enola Gay and Bockscar, making it an integral part of one of the most consequential military operations in history.
The Silverplate B-29s were distinguishable by their stripped-out interiors, modified bomb bays, and the absence of most defensive armament — all to accommodate the weight and size of the atomic bombs.
