Boeing (Douglas) CB-17G 44-6393

These are 1/72 scale decals for Douglas-built CB-17G 44-6393, assigned to the Air Force Attaché, U.S. Embassy, Ottawa, Canada, circa 1949.

The CB-17G was a VIP transport conversion of the wartime B-17G Flying Fortress, with the bomb bay and military equipment removed in favor of passenger accommodations. Aircraft assigned to embassy attaché offices served a diplomatic and liaison role, transporting senior military and government personnel between posts during the early Cold War years.

This particular aircraft represents a highly unusual and rarely modeled subject — a converted Flying Fortress in diplomatic service, wearing postwar USAF markings while operating out of the Canadian capital. A distinctive choice for any collector interested in the B-17's many postwar lives.
