These are 1/72 scale decals for Boeing-built MB-3A AS.68264 "The Hawk", the personal aircraft of Brigadier General Billy Mitchell, United States Army Air Service.

Billy Mitchell was the most outspoken and visionary advocate for air power in American military history. As Assistant Chief of the Air Service in the early 1920s, he championed the strategic potential of military aviation at a time when the Army and Navy establishment largely dismissed it. The Hawk was his personal mount during this period — a fitting name for the man who would become the father of the U.S. Air Force.

Mitchell famously demonstrated the vulnerability of naval vessels to air attack by sinking the captured German battleship Ostfriesland in 1921, a landmark moment in military aviation history. His relentless advocacy for an independent air force ultimately led to his court-martial in 1925, but history vindicated him — the U.S. Air Force was established as an independent service in 1947, and Mitchell was posthumously honored as a general officer.
