These are 1/72 scale decals for Boeing P2B-1S NACA 137 "Fertile Myrtle", operated by NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) as the dedicated mothership for the Douglas D-558-2 Skyrocket.
The P2B-1S was a Navy designation for the B-29 Superfortress, and Fertile Myrtle was specially modified to carry and air-launch the D-558-2 Skyrocket from altitude — allowing the rocket-powered research aircraft to conserve its fuel for high-speed flight rather than expending it during climb. This air-launch method was critical to the Skyrocket's record-breaking performance.
On November 20, 1953, Fertile Myrtle carried test pilot Scott Crossfield aloft in the D-558-2, which was then released to become the first aircraft to fly at Mach 2 — twice the speed of sound — a landmark moment in aviation history. Fertile Myrtle was an unsung but indispensable partner in that achievement.
