These are 1/72 scale decals for Boeing (Douglas) PB-1 (B-17F) 34016, assigned to the Naval Air Materiel Center (NAMC), Philadelphia, circa 1946.
The PB-1 was the U.S. Navy's designation for B-17 Flying Fortresses transferred from the Army Air Forces for naval use. While the Army Air Forces operated the B-17 as a strategic bomber, the Navy employed its PB-1s in utility, transport, and support roles. The Naval Air Materiel Center at Philadelphia was the Navy's primary depot for aircraft overhaul, repair, and material support — making a B-17F in NAMC markings a rare and distinctive postwar subject.
This aircraft represents the Flying Fortress in one of its most unusual roles — wearing Navy markings at a shore-based logistics and maintenance command in the immediate postwar period, a far cry from its wartime origins over Europe and the Pacific.
