These are 1/72 scale decals for Boeing WB-29 44-69770 "Typhoon Goon II", assigned to the 54th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, United States Air Force.
The WB-29 was a weather reconnaissance conversion of the B-29 Superfortress, stripped of its offensive armament and fitted with meteorological instruments to fly into and around severe weather systems. The crews of the 54th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron — known informally as the "Typhoon Goons" — flew directly into tropical storms and typhoons across the Pacific to gather the weather data essential for military and civilian forecasting.
The name "Typhoon Goon II" perfectly captures the spirit of these crews, who routinely flew their Superfortresses into some of the most violent weather on earth. Their data collection missions were unglamorous but critically important, providing the forecasts that protected both military operations and civilian populations across the Pacific theater during the late 1940s and 1950s.
