These are 1/72 scale decals for Brewster B-439 B-3119, operated by the United States Army Air Forces 5th Air Force in the Southwest Pacific, wearing an Olive Drab No. 41 over Medium Green No. 42 upper surface camouflage over natural metal undersides.
The B-439 was the export variant of the Brewster Buffalo, originally built for the Netherlands East Indies Army Air Corps (ML-KNIL). When the Dutch East Indies fell to Japan in early 1942, surviving aircraft and those still in transit were pressed into USAAF service with the 5th Air Force — a desperate measure in the darkest days of the Pacific War when any flyable fighter was worth having. The Buffalo had already earned a brutal reputation in British and Finnish service as outclassed by the Japanese Zero, but in USAAF hands it soldiered on in the chaotic early months of the Pacific campaign where there was simply nothing else available.
Serial B-3119 wears the distinctive two-tone green upper surface scheme with early-style U.S. ARMY fuselage titling and the pre-mid-1942 national insignia — a snapshot of American airpower at its most improvised and hard-pressed. Includes two serial options: 3119 and 3196.
A rare and historically significant subject for any early Pacific War or USAAF collection. Please allow some time for decal printing and shipping.
