These are N scale 3D printable files for the Budd Big Dome as modified and operated by various railroads and operators following their original service with the Santa Fe Railway (ATSF). All four variants in this listing trace their origins to the ATSF's 506–513 series Big Domes — full-length dome cars built by the Budd Company featuring an expansive upper-level glass dome running nearly the full length of the car. After their Santa Fe careers, these cars were acquired, modified, and operated by a remarkable variety of subsequent owners, each giving the cars a distinctive second life. Available in four decal variants: AUCX 520–524, HALX 507–513, NYSW 501 and 503, and SKTX 511.

The four variants represent four very different chapters in the post-ATSF lives of these cars:

  • AUCX 520–524 — Auto-Train Corporation: The Auto-Train Corporation acquired and modified a number of former ATSF Big Domes for use on its celebrated overnight automobile-carrying service between Lorton, Virginia and Sanford, Florida. Renumbered into the AUCX 520–524 series, these cars served as lounge and entertainment cars on the Auto-Train consist, their sweeping domes offering passengers a spectacular view during the daylight portions of the overnight run. See also the companion listing for the AUCX 540 & 541 Night Club Cars, the Auto-Train's converted Big Dome nightclub cars.
  • HALX 507–513 — Holland America Westours: Perhaps the most exotic second career of any former ATSF Big Dome — Holland America Westours acquired these cars for use on its Alaska tourist train operations, where the full-length dome proved ideally suited to showcasing the spectacular scenery of the Alaska Range and the Alaskan interior to cruise passengers traveling between Anchorage and Fairbanks. The HALX cars represent the Big Dome in one of the most scenically dramatic assignments any passenger car has ever received.
  • NYSW 501 and 503 — New York Susquehanna & Western Railway: The New York Susquehanna & Western Railway operated two former ATSF Big Domes as NYSW 501 and 503, using them on excursion and special passenger services — a striking and unexpected assignment for a railroad better known for freight operations, and a testament to the enduring appeal of the Big Dome design long after its original service life.
  • SKTX 511 — Ski Train / Rio Grande Scenic Railroad: SKTX 511 served on the famous Ski Train operation over the Denver & Rio Grande Western's mountain main line through the Colorado Rockies, carrying skiers from Denver to Winter Park through the Moffat Tunnel and over some of the most dramatic mountain railroad scenery in North America — a fitting assignment for a full-length dome car.
