These are N scale 3D printable files for the Auto-Train Corporation Budd Big Dome Night Club Cars AUCX 540 and 541 — two of the most distinctive and memorable passenger cars ever operated in American railroad history, representing the Auto-Train Corporation's inspired conversion of former Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) Big Dome cars into rolling nightclub entertainment venues for its celebrated overnight automobile-carrying service.

The Budd Big Dome was the Santa Fe Railway's full-length dome car — not to be confused with the Great Northern's Great Dome or the Milwaukee Road's Super Dome, which were similar but distinct designs built for different railroads. The ATSF Big Domes featured an expansive upper-level glass dome running nearly the full length of the car, offering passengers a panoramic view of the passing landscape, and they were among the most spectacular passenger cars of the postwar streamliner era on the Santa Fe's premier trains including the Super Chief and El Capitan.

The Auto-Train was a privately operated passenger and automobile ferry service connecting Lorton, Virginia (near Washington, D.C.) with Sanford, Florida (near Orlando), allowing passengers to travel overnight in comfort while their automobiles rode in enclosed auto-rack cars on the same train — eliminating the long drive down the East Coast for travelers heading to Florida with their cars. Launched in 1971 by entrepreneur Eugene Garfield, the Auto-Train was a bold and innovative concept that attracted a devoted following among East Coast travelers and became one of the most talked-about passenger rail operations of the 1970s.

The Auto-Train Corporation acquired the former ATSF Big Dome cars and converted them into nightclub and entertainment cars for the overnight Florida run. With live entertainment, dancing, and a festive atmosphere under the sweeping dome, the Night Club Cars transformed what might have been an ordinary overnight train ride into a party on rails — and they became the signature feature of the Auto-Train experience that passengers remembered long after their trip. AUCX 540 and 541 were the two Night Club Cars that served the Auto-Train consist, and their combination of spectacular Budd Big Dome architecture and lively onboard entertainment made them among the most photographed and celebrated passenger cars of the 1970s.
