Budd Big Dome (As Built) ATSF 550–555

These are N scale 3D printable files for the Budd Big Dome in its original as-built configuration — built by the Budd Company for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) as cars 550–555, and one of the three great full-length dome car designs of the postwar streamliner era alongside the Milwaukee Road's Super Dome and the Great Northern's Great Dome. Available in three decal variants: ATSF 550–555, SLRG 551 "Sky View", and Golden Arrow 513.

The Santa Fe's Big Domes served on the railroad's premier transcontinental passenger trains between Chicago and Los Angeles, including the El Capitan and the Super Chief corridor, providing passengers with panoramic views of the American Southwest — the Raton Pass, the New Mexico desert, and the Mojave. The Santa Fe's passenger cars were finished in natural unpainted stainless steel — the railroad's iconic warbonnet red and silver scheme was applied exclusively to locomotives and was never used on passenger cars — giving the Santa Fe's passenger consists a clean, gleaming stainless steel appearance that complemented the fluted Budd carbody construction of the Big Domes and the rest of the fleet. After their Santa Fe service, the cars dispersed to a variety of subsequent operators across the country.

The three decal variants represent the cars across their ownership history:

• ATSF 550–555 — the cars in their original Santa Fe configuration, numbered 550–555, in natural stainless steel finish with Santa Fe lettering and markings.
• SLRG 551 "Sky View" — San Luis & Rio Grande / Iowa Pacific: the car numbered 551 and named "Sky View" as operated by the San Luis & Rio Grande Railroad (SLRG) under Iowa Pacific Holdings on scenic excursion services in Colorado — a fitting name for a full-length dome car in the Rocky Mountain landscape.
• Golden Arrow 513 — the car numbered 513 as operated by the Golden Arrow excursion service, representing another of the distinctive second-career assignments that took these former Santa Fe cars into tourist and scenic railroad service.
