These are N scale 3D printable files for the Budd Plan 9507 16-Section Sleeper, built specifically for the California Zephyr — one of the most celebrated passenger trains in American railroad history, jointly operated by the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad (CB&Q), the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW), and the Western Pacific Railroad (WP) between Chicago and San Francisco.

The 16-section sleeper was an all-section sleeping car — a car configured entirely with open sections, the traditional Pullman sleeping arrangement in which facing seats by day converted to upper and lower berths at night, separated from the aisle by heavy curtains. With 16 sections providing 32 berths in a single car, the Plan 9507 maximized sleeping capacity in a format that had been the backbone of American overnight rail travel for decades. By the time the California Zephyr entered service in 1949, the open section was already giving way to the more private roomette and bedroom accommodations preferred by postwar travelers, making the all-section sleeper a somewhat traditional choice for a train that was otherwise at the cutting edge of streamliner design — a reflection of the practical need to carry as many overnight passengers as possible on the long transcontinental run.

The California Zephyr operated over one of the most scenically spectacular rail routes in North America, traversing the Colorado Rockies via the D&RGW's famous Royal Gorge and Moffat Tunnel route, and crossing the Sierra Nevada via the WP's Feather River Canyon — scenery so dramatic that the train was deliberately scheduled to traverse these mountain sections in daylight, and its Vista-Dome cars were purpose-built to give passengers the best possible view. The California Zephyr is widely regarded as one of the finest passenger trains ever operated in the United States, and its equipment — including the Plan 9507 sleepers — represents the pinnacle of postwar American streamliner design.
