California DOT Bi-Level Coach Car

These are N scale 3D printable files for the California Department of Transportation (CDTX) Bi-Level Coach Car — the standard passenger seating car of California's state-supported intercity rail fleet, originally placed in service on the Los Angeles to San Diego corridor and now found across all AMTK California routes. Available in two decal variants reflecting the two distinct generations of the California bi-level fleet: Northern Scheme and Southern Scheme.

The California bi-level cars are bi-level passenger cars featuring two passenger levels within the carbody, maximizing seating capacity while remaining compatible with the clearance restrictions of California's coastal and valley rail corridors. Originally introduced for the high-demand Los Angeles–San Diego corridor — one of the busiest intercity passenger rail routes in the United States, serving communities including Anaheim, Oceanside, Solana Beach, and Del Mar on the Pacific Surfliner route — the California bi-level fleet has since been deployed across all of AMTK's California state-supported services, including the Pacific Surfliner, the San Joaquin, and the Capitol Corridor.

The two decal variants represent the two distinct generations of the California bi-level fleet:

• Southern Scheme — the older generation of California bi-level cars, originally introduced for Southern California corridor service. While associated with the Pacific Surfliner route, a number of these earlier cars have also found their way into Northern California service over the years, and they can be modeled appropriately on any of the California AMTK corridors. These cars have a smoother exterior profile that distinguishes them from the newer Northern variant.
• Northern Scheme — the newer generation of California bi-level cars, distinguishable from the Southern variant by their more pronounced exterior fluting — the vertical ribbing along the carbody sides that gives these cars a visually distinct appearance. The Northern variant cars represent the more recently built equipment and are found across all California AMTK routes.
