These are 1/72 scale decals for Cessna O-1A Bird Dog 16703, operated by the Canadian Armed Forces, equipped with skis for winter operations.
Following the unification of Canada's armed forces in 1968, the Royal Canadian Army's Bird Dogs were redesignated under the unified Canadian Armed Forces structure. The O-1A designation reflects the U.S. redesignation of the L-19A under the 1962 tri-service naming system, adopted in parallel by Canada.
The addition of skis transformed the Bird Dog into a highly capable winter operations platform, able to land and take off from snow-covered fields, frozen lakes, and unprepared surfaces across Canada's vast northern and arctic regions. This ski-equipped configuration was essential for year-round operations in Canada's challenging winter environment, where wheeled aircraft would be severely limited for months at a time.
A distinctive and operationally fascinating variant, finished in Olive Drab, that captures the unique demands of Canadian military aviation in the north. Please allow some time for decal printing and shipping.
