Cessna O-1E 56-2610 United States Air Force

These are 1/72 scale decals for Cessna O-1E Bird Dog 56-2610, assigned to the 19th Tactical Air Support Squadron (TASS), United States Air Force.

The 19th TASS was a forward air control unit operating the O-1E in the critical and dangerous mission of directing airstrikes against enemy targets in close proximity to friendly forces. TASS crews flew low and slow over the battlefield — often under fire — to identify targets, mark them with white phosphorus rockets, and coordinate with strike aircraft overhead. It was one of the most hazardous flying jobs of the Vietnam War era.

The unusual ADC Gray finish on this aircraft — more commonly associated with air defense interceptors — makes it a particularly distinctive and eye-catching subject, standing apart from the more typical Olive Drab or camouflaged Bird Dogs of the period.
