The car began its career as a Pullman Plan 53614 72-seat coach built by the Pullman Company for the Kansas City Southern Railway, where it served in the KCS passenger fleet — the same car type as the KCS coaches numbered 270–279 also available from Out of the Box Models. After its KCS service, the car was acquired by the Chicago & North Western Railway and renumbered as CNW #425 for assignment to the railroad's executive business train. The conversion of a former high-capacity revenue coach into business train service gave the CNW a versatile and spacious car well-suited to carrying larger groups of officers, guests, and staff on executive travel and line inspection trips across the CNW's extensive network in the upper Midwest.

CNW #425 pairs with the other cars of the CNW business train fleet available from Out of the Box Models to build a complete and historically accurate CNW executive consist, including the CNW #450 Cedar River Diner, the CNW 410 Budd 10-6 Sleeper, the CNW Budd Big Dome Night Club Cars, and the CNW 422 Iowa River Presentation Car.
