The Silver Pendulum was built by Pacific Railway Equipment (PRE) and featured an experimental pendulum suspension system — a technology designed to allow the carbody to tilt inward on curves, reducing the lateral forces felt by passengers and permitting higher speeds through curved track without sacrificing ride comfort.
