These are N scale 3D printable files for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) 1-50 Series rapid transit car, built by the St. Louis Car Company in 1959 for service on the Chicago 'L' system. Includes both clean roof and pantograph-pole versions. Designed to fit on a Tomytec TM-04/TM-20 motorized chassis. Available in six decal variants spanning the car's long service history: Mercury Green and Cream, High Performance, Alpine White and Mint Green, Platinum Mist, Bicentennial, and Spirit of Chicago.
The 1-50 series was built by the St. Louis Car Company — one of the most prolific American transit car manufacturers of the 20th century, responsible for streetcars, rapid transit cars, and interurban equipment for systems across the country. Delivered in 1959, the 1-50 series cars served the Chicago 'L' for decades, accumulating an extraordinarily rich livery history as the CTA updated its color schemes and applied special paint schemes to mark significant occasions — making this one of the most livery-diverse car types in the catalog.
The Chicago 'L' — short for elevated — is one of the oldest and most extensive rapid transit systems in the United States, with a history stretching back to 1892. The system's iconic elevated structure running through the heart of downtown Chicago on the Loop is one of the most recognizable pieces of urban infrastructure in America.
The six decal variants trace the 1-50 series through its full livery history:
- Mercury Green and Cream — the cars in the CTA's classic Mercury Green and Cream livery, the traditional two-tone color scheme that defined the Chicago 'L' for much of the postwar era and the scheme in which the 1-50 series cars were originally delivered.
- High Performance — the cars in the High Performance livery, a later CTA color scheme applied to the 1-50 series during their service life.
- Alpine White and Mint Green — the cars in the Alpine White and Mint Green scheme, another CTA livery variation applied to the fleet.
- Platinum Mist — the cars in the Platinum Mist livery, representing a further evolution of the CTA's passenger car color schemes.
- Bicentennial — the cars in a special Bicentennial livery applied to mark the United States Bicentennial in 1976, one of the most distinctive and historically significant special paint schemes ever applied to Chicago 'L' equipment.
- Spirit of Chicago — the cars in the CTA's Spirit of Chicago livery, the colorful scheme that became one of the most recognizable CTA passenger car designs of the era.
The Tomytec TM-04/TM-20 motorized chassis provides smooth, reliable N scale operation suitable for the tight curves typical of urban rapid transit layouts.
