These are N scale 3D printable files for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) 2400 Series rapid transit car, built by Boeing-Vertol in 1976 for service on the Chicago 'L' system. Designed to fit on a Tomytec TM-04/TM-20 motorized chassis. Available in three decal variants: Spirit of Chicago, Work Motor, and Natural Metal.

The 2400 series was built by Boeing-Vertol — the aerospace and defense company better known for its helicopters — which also produced rapid transit cars for BART in the San Francisco Bay Area and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) in Boston during the same era. The 2400 series cars entered service on the Chicago 'L' in 1976 and served the CTA for decades, becoming a familiar sight on the elevated and subway lines of the Chicago rapid transit network before being retired and succeeded by newer equipment including the 3200 series cars.

The Chicago 'L' — short for elevated — is one of the oldest and most extensive rapid transit systems in the United States, with a history stretching back to 1892. The system's iconic elevated structure running through the heart of downtown Chicago on the Loop — a rectangular elevated track encircling the central business district — is one of the most recognizable pieces of urban infrastructure in America.

The three decal variants capture the 2400 series across its service life:

  • Spirit of Chicago — the cars in the CTA's Spirit of Chicago passenger livery, the colorful scheme applied to the 2400 series for revenue passenger service on the 'L' system.
  • Work Motor — the cars as converted for maintenance and work service, representing 2400 series cars repurposed for non-revenue track and infrastructure work on the CTA system after their passenger service careers.
  • Natural Metal — the cars in their unpainted natural metal finish, representing the 2400 series as delivered or in an undecorated state — ideal for custom painting or modeling the cars in an early or transitional condition.

The Tomytec TM-04/TM-20 motorized chassis provides smooth, reliable N scale operation suitable for the tight curves typical of urban rapid transit layouts.
