These are N scale 3D printable files for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) 3200 Series rapid transit car — the current-generation stainless steel cars that form the backbone of the Chicago 'L' system today. Designed to fit on a Tomytec TM-04/TM-20 motorized chassis.
The 3200 series cars were built by Morrison-Knudsen and entered service in 1992, replacing older equipment on the CTA's elevated and subway rapid transit network. Finished in stainless steel with the CTA's distinctive color-coded line markings, the 3200 series cars are the most widely recognized rapid transit cars in Chicago and operate on multiple lines across the system, including the Red, Blue, Brown, Green, Orange, Pink, and Purple lines.
The Chicago 'L' — short for elevated — is one of the oldest and most extensive rapid transit systems in the United States, with a history stretching back to 1892. The system's iconic elevated structure running through the heart of downtown Chicago on the Loop — a rectangular elevated track encircling the central business district — is one of the most recognizable pieces of urban infrastructure in America, and the 3200 series cars navigating its tight curves and elevated trackage are an instantly recognizable symbol of Chicago.
The Tomytec TM-04/TM-20 motorized chassis provides smooth, reliable N scale operation suitable for the tight curves typical of urban rapid transit layouts.
