These are N scale 3D printable files for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) 4000 Series "Baldie" in its early, unmodified 1914 as-built configuration, with 1950s scheme decals — representing the cars from the first series of 4000 series cars (4001–4250), built by the Cincinnati Car Company in 1914, in their original body form before the modifications that produced the later configuration seen in the companion 4000 Series (Late "Baldie") listing. Designed to fit on a Tomytec TM-04/TM-20 motorized chassis.
The early "Baldie" captures the 4000 series in the body configuration closest to how the cars were originally built — the unmodified carbody details that distinguished the 1914 cars before decades of service and maintenance updates reshaped their appearance. Paired with the 1950s CTA color scheme, this version places the 4000 series in the postwar era when the cars were already well into their long working lives, still carrying Chicago commuters in their original body form while the city around them had changed enormously since their construction.
The 4000 series was built by the Cincinnati Car Company beginning in 1914 and served as the backbone of the Chicago 'L' fleet for decades. Their extraordinary longevity is underscored by the fact that the CTA still operates two 4000 series cars from the 1922 batch today for special events and excursions — over a century after the first cars of the series entered service.
