These are 1/72 scale decals for Convair XB-46 45-59582, depicted in its later configuration with United States Air Force (USAF) markings following the establishment of the independent Air Force in September 1947.

The XB-46 was Convair's elegant entry in the postwar jet medium bomber competition, featuring a slender fuselage, straight wings with four Allison J35 turbojet engines in paired underwing nacelles, and a beautifully clean aerodynamic design. Evaluated against the Boeing XB-47, Martin XB-48, and North American XB-45, the XB-46 ultimately lost to Boeing's revolutionary swept-wing XB-47 Stratojet in one of the most consequential procurement decisions in American aviation history.

This late-configuration decal set captures the sole XB-46 after it had been repainted into the new USAF markings that replaced the wartime USAAF insignia — a subtle but historically significant distinction from the companion early USAAF-marked version (45-59582 Early). Together the two decal sets document the full evaluation career of this rare and historically important prototype, from its first flights under Army Air Forces colors through its final evaluation under the newly independent Air Force.
