These are 1/72 scale decals for Fairchild-Republic A-10A Thunderbolt II 80-0254, assigned to the 357th Fighter Squadron, United States Air Force, in the two-tone gray camouflage scheme.
The 357th Fighter Squadron — part of the 355th Fighter Wing at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, the spiritual home of the A-10 community — operated the Thunderbolt II in the close air support and battlefield air interdiction roles that defined the aircraft's Cold War and post-Cold War mission. Davis-Monthan's proximity to vast training ranges in the American Southwest made it ideal for the low-altitude, high-intensity training that A-10 crews required to master their demanding mission.
The two-tone gray scheme — comprising Medium Gray over Light Gray — represented a significant evolution from the earlier European One camouflage of green and gray, reflecting the USAF's shift toward a more globally deployable force operating across a wider range of environments than the Central European battlefield the A-10 was originally designed for. The cleaner, more neutral gray scheme became the standard for A-10s through the 1990s and beyond, worn during deployments to the Gulf War, the Balkans, and Afghanistan.
A great companion to the experimental “Jaws” scheme A-10A 75-0262 of the 66th Fighter Weapons Squadron, together illustrating the dramatic evolution of A-10 markings across the aircraft's service life. Please allow some time for decal printing and shipping.
