LTV A-7D 72-0176 South Dakota Air National Guard

These are 1/72 scale decals for the LTV A-7D Corsair II, serial 72-0176, assigned to the 175th Tactical Fighter Squadron of the South Dakota Air National Guard — one of the Midwest's frontline Guard attack units during the Cold War era.

The A-7D Corsair II was the USAF's premier land-based tactical attack aircraft of the 1970s and 80s, combining the TF41 turbofan engine, M61 Vulcan 20mm cannon, and a state-of-the-art navigation and weapons delivery system — including an inertial navigation system and head-up display — into a platform capable of delivering ordnance with exceptional precision. The A-7D saw combat in Vietnam and remained a cornerstone of both active-duty and Air National Guard attack aviation for over a decade.

The 175th Tactical Fighter Squadron, based at Joe Foss Field, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was the flying component of the 114th Fighter Wing of the South Dakota ANG. Operating the A-7D as its primary attack aircraft, the 175th maintained the same wartime tasking and readiness standards as active-duty USAF units, ready to deploy alongside regular Air Force squadrons at a moment's notice. The South Dakota ANG's Corsair IIs represented the Guard's vital role in the nation's tactical air power during the height of the Cold War.
