The A-24 Banshee was the Army Air Corps' land-based adaptation of the legendary Douglas SBD Dauntless — the Navy dive bomber that delivered the decisive blow at the Battle of Midway, sinking four Japanese fleet carriers in a matter of minutes. Stripped of its arrestor hook and modified for land operations, the A-24 brought the Dauntless's proven dive bombing capability to USAAC service.
