These are 1/72 scale decals for Douglas A-3B Skywarrior 138974, assigned to VAH-11 (Heavy Attack Squadron 11), operating from the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42).

The A-3B Skywarrior was the definitive production variant of what was, at the time of its introduction, the largest and heaviest aircraft ever designed to operate from an aircraft carrier. Known throughout the Navy as the “Whale” for its imposing size, the A-3B was designed to deliver nuclear weapons deep into the Soviet Union from carrier decks — giving the Navy a strategic strike capability to rival the Air Force's land-based bombers.

VAH-11, known as the “Checkmates,” was one of the Navy's premier heavy attack squadrons, operating the Skywarrior in the nuclear strike role during the height of the Cold War. The USS Franklin D. Roosevelt — a Midway-class carrier and one of the few ships large enough to comfortably operate the Whale — provided the platform from which VAH-11 maintained America's carrier-based nuclear deterrent in the Mediterranean and beyond.
