EMC E2A and E2B ABB set (1937 version)

These are N scale 3D printable files for a complete A-B-B consist of the Electro-Motive Corporation EMC E2A and E2B as delivered in 1937, in Union Pacific Railroad markings for two of the most celebrated streamliners in American railroad history. Designed to fit on a Kato E unit frame. Decals are included for either the City of Los Angeles or the City of San Francisco consist.

The E2 was one of the rarest diesel passenger locomotive types ever built in North America — only 2 E2A cab units and 4 E2B booster units were produced in total, making the entire E2 fleet just 6 locomotives, all built for the Union Pacific. This A-B-B set of 3 units therefore represents every E2 ever built as it appeared when brand new in 1937 — the complete and total production run of this locomotive type in its original factory configuration. There is no other railroad, no other livery, and no other configuration: if it was an E2 in 1937, it looked like this.

Delivered in 1937 to power Union Pacific's new City series streamliners, the E2s were among the most advanced passenger diesel locomotives in the world at the time of their construction. The 1937 as-delivered configuration modeled here captures the locomotives exactly as they emerged from the Electro-Motive Corporation's La Grange, Illinois plant, before the modifications and updates that produced the 1946 configuration (also available from Out of the Box Models). Wearing the Union Pacific's original Armour Yellow and Leaf Brown passenger livery — the distinctive two-tone scheme applied to the City series equipment at delivery — the as-delivered E2s represent the very beginning of the story that the 1946 set concludes.

The two consist options represent UP's flagship transcontinental services:

• City of Los Angeles — UP's premier service between Chicago and Los Angeles, operated jointly with the Chicago & North Western east of Omaha, hauling passengers across the desert Southwest in streamlined luxury.
• City of San Francisco — UP's flagship service to the Bay Area, operated jointly with the Chicago & North Western east of Omaha and the Southern Pacific west of Ogden, Utah, running through the dramatic scenery of the Sierra Nevada on its Chicago-to-Oakland run.
