These are N scale 3D printable files for the Union Pacific (UP) EMC E2A and E2B in the 1942 repainted livery — a complete consist set including both A units and all four B units, available in two train variants: City of Los Angeles and City of San Francisco. Designed to fit on Kato E unit donor mechanisms.
The EMC E2 was produced by the Electro-Motive Corporation (EMC) as one of the earliest streamlined passenger diesel cab units, and the Union Pacific's E2 fleet powered two of the most celebrated streamliners of the prewar and wartime era — the City of Los Angeles and the City of San Francisco. In 1942, the UP repainted its E2 fleet from the original Armour Yellow and Leaf Brown delivery livery to the updated Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray scheme — a significant visual change that replaced the warm brown lower body with a cooler gray, giving the locomotives a distinctly different appearance while retaining the UP's signature Armour Yellow as the dominant color. This listing represents the locomotives in that 1942 Harbor Mist Gray configuration.
This is a complete consist set — covering both E2A cab units and all four E2B booster units — allowing modelers to build a fully prototype-accurate E2 locomotive consist for either the City of Los Angeles or the City of San Francisco. The individual A units in their later renumbered identities are represented in the companion single-unit listings from Out of the Box Models.
The two decal variants represent the two great UP City streamliners powered by this locomotive fleet:
- City of Los Angeles — the UP's premier streamliner on the Chicago–Los Angeles corridor, operated jointly with the Chicago & North Western east of Omaha, one of the flagship trains of the prewar streamliner era.
- City of San Francisco — the UP's transcontinental streamliner on the Chicago–San Francisco corridor, operated jointly with the Chicago & North Western and the Southern Pacific, and the train for which the lead A unit was originally designated SF-1.
These shells are designed to fit on Kato E unit donor mechanisms. The Fully Painted and Decaled Model option requires donor mechanisms supplied by the customer.
