These are 1/72 scale decals for Embraer A-29B Super Tucano 20-2102, assigned to the 6th Special Operations Squadron, United States Air Force, in a striking commemorative World War II paint scheme honoring the legendary 1st Air Commando Squadron.
The 1st Air Commando Squadron — originally the 1st Air Commando Group — was one of the most storied and unconventional units in American aviation history. Formed in 1943 under the command of Colonel Philip Cochran and Colonel John Alison, the 1st ACG was created specifically to support Brigadier General Orde Wingate's Chindit long-range penetration operations deep behind Japanese lines in Burma. Flying a remarkable mix of fighters, bombers, transports, gliders, and light aircraft, the 1st ACG pioneered the concept of integrated air commando operations — inserting and supplying ground forces, providing close air support, and conducting casualty evacuation in some of the most demanding terrain and conditions of the entire war.
The 6th Special Operations Squadron, as a direct heir to that Air Commando legacy, operates the A-29B Super Tucano in the light attack and irregular warfare mission — a modern expression of the same philosophy of agile, unconventional airpower that the 1st ACG pioneered in the jungles of Burma. The commemorative scheme worn by 20-2102 bridges eight decades of Air Commando history, connecting the USAF's current special operations aviation mission directly to its wartime roots.
