These are N scale 3D printable files for the Fairbanks-Morse Erie Built A Unit in Chicago & North Western Railway markings — specifically modeled with road-specific details for units 6001A, 6001B, 6002A, and 6002B, operated by the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway, a CNW subsidiary. Designed to fit on a Kato PA frame.
The Erie Built was Fairbanks-Morse's entry into the postwar passenger locomotive market, produced between 1945 and 1949 in partnership with the General Electric Company at GE's Erie, Pennsylvania plant. Powered by FM's unique opposed-piston engine — in which two pistons share a single cylinder moving in opposite directions, eliminating the cylinder head entirely — the Erie Built offered exceptional power density in an elegant streamlined carbody with the distinctive "shark nose" profile that made it one of the most visually striking passenger locomotives of the early diesel era.
The Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway — commonly known as the "Omaha Road" and operated as a subsidiary of the Chicago & North Western — took delivery of 4 Erie Built A units numbered 6001A, 6001B, 6002A, and 6002B. The Omaha Road operated passenger and freight service across its network connecting Chicago with St. Paul, Minneapolis, and points in between, and its Erie Builts worked the railroad's passenger trains in the CNW's distinctive yellow and green livery. As a CNW subsidiary, the Omaha Road's equipment was closely integrated with the parent railroad's operations, and these locomotives represented the Erie Built's presence on one of the most important passenger corridors in the upper Midwest.
