These are 1/72 scale decals for the Fokker D.VIII, serial A.S. 64345, evaluated under McCook Field Project P-165 by the United States Army Air Service — one of the captured German fighters assessed by American engineers in the immediate aftermath of World War I.

The Fokker D.VIII — known to Allied pilots as the "Flying Razor" — was one of the most advanced fighters to emerge from the First World War. A parasol monoplane powered by a rotary engine, it offered exceptional visibility and nimble handling, and arrived at the front just as the Armistice ended the fighting in November 1918. Had the war continued, the D.VIII was widely expected to be a formidable opponent for Allied fighters.

McCook Field, located near Dayton, Ohio, was the U.S. Army Air Service's primary aeronautical research and engineering facility in the early 1920s. Under the McCook Field Project system, captured and foreign aircraft were assigned project numbers and subjected to rigorous flight testing and technical evaluation. Project P-165 saw the D.VIII thoroughly examined by American test pilots and engineers, helping to inform early U.S. pursuit aircraft development in the postwar period.

A rare and seldom-modeled subject that bridges the gap between WWI German aviation and early American aeronautical research. Please allow some time for decal printing and shipping.
