These are 1/72 scale decals for the Fokker D.VIII, serial A.S. 94112, evaluated under McCook Field Project P-169 by the United States Army Air Service — a second captured example of Germany's formidable late-war fighter assessed by American engineers following the Armistice.
The Fokker D.VIII — dubbed the "Flying Razor" by Allied pilots for its parasol monoplane profile — was among the most advanced fighters produced during World War I. Powered by a rotary engine and offering outstanding pilot visibility, it reached the front just as the war ended in November 1918. Its combination of speed, agility, and modern configuration made it a subject of intense interest to postwar aviation engineers worldwide.
McCook Field, near Dayton, Ohio, served as the nerve center of U.S. Army Air Service aeronautical research in the early 1920s. The McCook Field Project system assigned sequential project numbers to foreign and experimental aircraft undergoing evaluation, with multiple D.VIII airframes — including both P-165 and P-169 — subjected to detailed flight testing and technical analysis. The data gathered from these evaluations directly influenced the direction of American pursuit aircraft design throughout the interwar period.
A rare second example of this seldom-modeled subject, ideal for displaying alongside the P-165 airframe or as a standalone piece of early American aviation history. Please allow some time for decal printing and shipping.
