These are 1/72 scale decals for Naval Aircraft Factory N3N-3 1777, assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, wearing overall Orange-Yellow (FS 13538) with Flat Black (FS 37038) anti-glare panel, bold "U.S. MARINES" fuselage titling, and modex 15.
The N3N-3 — affectionately known as the "Yellow Peril" by the generations of naval aviators who learned to fly in it — was the final and most produced variant of the Naval Aircraft Factory's primary trainer biplane. Uniquely, the N3N was the only aircraft ever built by a U.S. government facility to enter operational service, manufactured at the Naval Aircraft Factory in Philadelphia rather than by a commercial contractor. Rugged, forgiving, and reliable, it served as the Navy and Marine Corps' primary ab initio trainer from the late 1930s through World War II, and remarkably remained in service at the U.S. Naval Academy as a floatplane trainer until 1961 — making it the last biplane in U.S. military service.
This example at MCAS Cherry Point wears the classic all-over Orange-Yellow training scheme with "U.S. MARINES" titling and the pre-war style national insignia with red center dot, placing it in the early wartime period when Cherry Point was being established as one of the Marine Corps' primary East Coast air stations. The Department of Aviation, United States Marine Corps and Cherry Point insignia are included on the decal sheet. Includes two serial and modex size options.
A classic American trainer biplane in rare USMC markings — a great subject for any pre-war or early WWII Navy/Marine Corps training collection. Please allow some time for decal printing and shipping.
