These are 1/72 scale decals for Naval Aircraft Factory N3N-3 3022, modex 44, in the floatplane configuration with overall Orange-Yellow (FS 13538), Flat Black (FS 37038) anti-glare panel, and bold "NAVY" fuselage titling — the markings worn by the aircraft currently on permanent display at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.
The N3N-3 — the "Yellow Peril" — was the Navy's primary ab initio trainer biplane of World War II, built at the Naval Aircraft Factory in Philadelphia and beloved by the thousands of naval aviators who learned to fly in it. Serial 3022 represents the type in its floatplane configuration, fitted with twin EDO floats for water operations — the form in which the N3N served longest, remaining in use at the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis for floatplane familiarization training until 1961, making it the last biplane in U.S. military service.
That the Smithsonian chose the N3N-3 on floats as the example to preserve and display speaks to the significance of this configuration in the aircraft's long service history. 3022 is the actual airframe that generations of museum visitors have encountered, making these decals a direct connection to one of the most historically important trainer aircraft in American aviation. The Cherry Point station insignia is included on the decal sheet. Includes two serial and modex size options: 44 in two sizes.
A natural companion to the USMC Cherry Point N3N-3 listing — the same type, two very different configurations and careers. Please allow some time for decal printing and shipping.
