These are N scale 3D printable files for the Milwaukee Road (MILW) Pullman "Creek" Series Skytop Sleeper-Observation — one of the most visually distinctive and celebrated passenger car designs in American railroad history, built by the Pullman Company exclusively for the Milwaukee Road. Available in three decal variants covering the full Milwaukee Road career of these cars: 1949–1950, 1950–1957, and 1957–1971.
The Skytop Sleeper-Observation was designed by the Milwaukee Road's legendary industrial designer Brooks Stevens and built by Pullman in 1948–1949 for service on the railroad's premier Olympian Hiawatha transcontinental streamliner. The car's defining feature is its extraordinary Skytop lounge at the observation end — a sweeping, fully glazed rounded tail with a dramatically raked roof of glass that provided passengers in the rear lounge with a panoramic 270-degree view of the passing scenery, including the full sweep of the track receding behind the train. No other American passenger car design achieved quite the same combination of architectural elegance and visual drama at the observation end, and the Skytop remains one of the most admired and recognizable car silhouettes of the streamliner era.
The "Creek" Series naming convention gave each car a name drawn from American creeks and streams — a poetic and distinctly Milwaukee Road touch that complemented the car's graceful design. The cars served on the Olympian Hiawatha across the Milwaukee Road's northern transcontinental route through Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, and Washington to Seattle and Tacoma.
The three decal variants trace the cars through the Milwaukee Road's evolving livery across their entire service life:
- 1949–1950 — the cars in the original delivery livery as applied when the Skytops entered service on the Olympian Hiawatha, representing the cars in their earliest and most pristine configuration.
- 1950–1957 — the cars in the updated Milwaukee Road livery applied from 1950 through the railroad's next major scheme change in 1957.
- 1957–1971 — the cars in the final Milwaukee Road livery applied from 1957 through the end of Milwaukee Road passenger service in 1971, representing the Skytops through the latter portion of their career.
The Milwaukee Road built two distinct Skytop Observation designs: these Pullman-built "Creek" Series Skytop Sleeper-Observations, which combined sleeping car accommodations with the Skytop lounge, and the homebuilt "Rapids" Series Skytop Lounge-Observations, which were constructed in the Milwaukee Road's own shops. See the companion MILW "Rapids" Series Skytop Lounge-Observation listing from Out of the Box Models for the homebuilt version.
