The Pullman Plan 7451A was a purpose-designed Club Lounge — a parlor car combining lounge seating, a bar, and club-style amenities for the premium passengers traveling aboard the City of Los Angeles, Union Pacific's flagship service between Chicago and Los Angeles operated jointly with the Chicago & North Western east of Omaha. The Club Lounge was one of the most social spaces on the train — a place where passengers could gather for cocktails, conversation, and the pleasure of watching the desert Southwest pass by through large windows, far removed from the formality of the dining car.

LA-703 "Hollywood" carried one of the most evocative names in the City of Los Angeles consist — a direct nod to the train's destination and the glamorous world it connected to. The City of Los Angeles was the train of choice for Hollywood's studio executives, film stars, and anyone making the journey between the entertainment capital and the rest of America, and the car names in its consist reflected that identity. Riding in the Hollywood Club Lounge on the City of Los Angeles was, quite literally, traveling in style toward the place the car was named for.

The Pool Service variant represents the car in general Pullman pool markings, as used when the car operated in broader UP passenger service outside of dedicated City of Los Angeles assignments — a prototypically accurate option for modelers depicting the flexibility with which Pullman equipment was rotated across multiple trains and services.
