These are 1/72 scale decals for the Sikorsky HRS-3 (CH-19E), BuNo 144257, assigned to HMR-262 of the United States Marine Corps — a transport helicopter from one of the Corps' pioneering rotary-wing assault squadrons.
The HRS-3 was the Marine Corps' designation for the Sikorsky S-55, known to the Air Force as the H-19 Chickasaw. Powered by a nose-mounted Pratt & Whitney R-1340 Wasp radial engine, the S-55 family offered a spacious, unobstructed fuselage cabin capable of carrying up to ten combat-equipped Marines — making it the Corps' primary assault transport helicopter of the early 1950s. The HRS series played a landmark role in Marine aviation history, being used to develop and validate the concept of vertical envelopment — the tactic of using helicopters to land assault troops behind enemy lines and bypass coastal defenses — that remains central to Marine amphibious doctrine to this day.
HMR-262 was one of the U.S. Marine Corps' early helicopter transport squadrons, part of the Marine Corps' pioneering helicopter assault community that developed vertical envelopment tactics during the Korean War and its aftermath. Marine HRS squadrons flew the first large-scale combat helicopter assault operations in history during Korea, and units like HMR-262 continued to refine those hard-won lessons in the years that followed, laying the groundwork for the helicopter-centric amphibious assault doctrine that would define Marine operations in Vietnam and beyond.
A historically significant subject from the formative years of Marine Corps helicopter aviation. Please allow some time for decal printing and shipping.
