These are 1/72 scale decals for the Sikorsky SH-3H Sea King, BuNo 149738, assigned to HS-15 (Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Fifteen) aboard the USS America (CV-66) — the definitive ASW variant of the Sea King serving with one of the Atlantic Fleet's carrier air wings.
The SH-3H was the final and most capable production variant of the Sea King family, incorporating upgraded sensors, improved avionics, and an expanded electronic suite compared to earlier models. Equipped with dipping sonar, sonobuoys, magnetic anomaly detection gear, and the ability to carry both torpedoes and depth charges, the SH-3H represented the pinnacle of carrier-based helicopter ASW capability during the late Cold War period. Its combination of endurance, sensor fit, and weapons load made it a formidable submarine hunter, operating day and night in all weather conditions from the carrier deck.
HS-15, the "Red Lions," was an Atlantic Fleet helicopter anti-submarine squadron based at NAS Jacksonville, Florida, deploying as part of carrier air wings aboard Atlantic Fleet carriers including the USS America (CV-66). America was a Kitty Hawk-class carrier and one of the Atlantic Fleet's premier conventional carriers, conducting deployments to the Mediterranean and North Atlantic — some of the most strategically critical waters of the Cold War, where Soviet submarine activity demanded constant vigilance from HS-15's Sea Kings.
A classic late Cold War carrier ASW subject and a fine addition to any Sea King collection. Please allow some time for decal printing and shipping.
