These are N scale 3D printed models of the Southern Pacific B-50-15 — a wooden single-sheathed boxcar built in 1925, representing one of the SP's classic wood-framed freight car classes from the transition era between wooden and all-steel construction. A Folsom Locomotive Works model. Available in eight decal variants tracing the B-50-15 through its complete service and second-career history.
The SP B-50-15 was built in 1925 as part of the Southern Pacific's large fleet of 40-foot wooden single-sheathed boxcars — a construction type featuring a wooden frame and body with a single layer of exterior sheathing, widely used by American railroads in the 1920s before all-steel construction became standard. The B-50-15 class served the SP's freight operations across its vast network connecting California, the Pacific Northwest, and the Gulf Coast, and the cars' long service lives saw them pass through multiple lettering schemes, specialized service assignments, and eventual conversion to Maintenance of Way use — all represented in the eight decal variants available for this model.
The eight decal variants trace the B-50-15 through its full history:
- ML&T — Morgan's Louisiana & Texas Railroad: the car lettered for the Morgan's Louisiana & Texas Railroad (ML&T), a Southern Pacific subsidiary operating in Louisiana and Texas, representing B-50-15 class cars assigned to or lettered for this SP-controlled Gulf Coast line.
- SP As Delivered — the car in its original 1925 delivery configuration, representing the B-50-15 as it appeared when new from the builder.
- SP Simplified — the car in the SP's simplified lettering scheme, reflecting the reduced-detail stenciling applied to cars during and after the economy measures of the late 1920s and early 1930s.
- SP 1930s — the car as it appeared in 1930s-era SP lettering, representing the cars in their mature service configuration during the Depression era.
- SP Postwar — the car in postwar SP lettering, representing the cars as they appeared in the late 1940s and early 1950s in their later revenue service years.
- SP 1956+ — the car in the post-1956 SP lettering scheme, representing the cars in their final revenue service configuration.
- SPMW — SP Maintenance of Way: the car as converted to Maintenance of Way (MoW) service after retirement from revenue freight service — a common second career for older wooden boxcars on the SP.
- SP Express Service — the car as configured for express service, representing B-50-15 class cars assigned to higher-priority less-than-carload or express freight operations.
