These are 1/72 scale decals for Vought VE-7 AS64313, assigned to the United States Army Air Service with pursuit number P-217, wearing Silver Dope Linen fabric covering over a natural wood airframe with the distinctive red, white, and blue pursuit number stripes on the tail and pre-war national insignia with red center dot in four sizes.
The VE-7 holds a unique place in American aviation history: it was the aircraft from which the first carrier takeoff in U.S. Navy history was made, when Lieutenant Virgil C. Griffin flew a VE-7SF from the deck of USS Langley (CV-1) on 17 October 1922. Originally designed by Lewis and Vought as a two-seat trainer for the Army Air Service, the VE-7 was adapted by the Navy into the single-seat VE-7S and floatplane VE-7SF variants for carrier trials — but the Army Air Service continued to operate the original two-seat trainer version, as represented by AS64313.
The Silver Dope Linen finish — the standard fabric treatment of the era, giving the aircraft its characteristic pale silver-gray appearance — combined with the natural wood propeller and struts, the bold "A.S.64313" fuselage serial, and the red/white/blue P-217 pursuit number tail stripes make this a visually striking and historically evocative subject. The Air Service wings insignia is included on the decal sheet. Includes four national insignia in two sizes and two serial size options.
A landmark aircraft in American naval aviation history, in its original Army Air Service configuration — an essential subject for any WWI/early postwar, VE-7, or US Army Air Service collection. Please allow some time for decal printing and shipping.
