These are 1/72 scale decals for Yakovlev Yak-9P, White 35, assigned to the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) — a Soviet-supplied fighter serving with China's newly established air arm during one of the most turbulent and consequential periods in modern Chinese history.
The Yak-9P was the final and most capable production variant of the Yak-9 family, featuring all-metal construction, refined avionics, and an armament of a 20mm ShVAK cannon and two 12.7mm UBS machine guns. The Soviet Union supplied Yak-9Ps to the People's Republic of China in the early 1950s as part of the broad military assistance program that accompanied the Sino-Soviet alliance — equipping the fledgling PLAAF, established only in 1949 alongside the People's Republic itself, with frontline combat aircraft as China rapidly built its military aviation capability from virtually nothing.
PLAAF Yak-9Ps saw combat during the Korean War, where Chinese and North Korean pilots flying Soviet-supplied aircraft — including Yak-9Ps and the more advanced MiG-15 — clashed with USAF, USN, and UN air forces over the Korean Peninsula and the infamous "MiG Alley" along the Yalu River. The Yak-9P, outclassed by the jet-powered F-86 Sabre, was quickly relegated to secondary roles as the MiG-15 took over the air superiority mission, but it represented a critical stepping stone in the PLAAF's rapid transformation from a nascent force into a serious regional air power.
A compelling Cold War subject representing the early days of Chinese military aviation and the Sino-Soviet alliance at its height. Please allow some time for decal printing and shipping.
